The Question

Where did blockchain technology come from, and where is it going? Does its promise lead to utopia or apocalypse? By addressing these questions, we seek not only to pose the question “what is blockchain,” but what is human being — or, if you like, human nature — such that it develops these technologies of distance and propinquity, these prostheses of talk and touch?

For the inaugural issue of Fork, we are therefore seeking contributions that address the histories, pre-histories, and futures of Web3, as well as of the intellectual trends and concepts that have informed its development.

We also strongly invite contributions from Web3 developers willing to share their personal journeys or visions from within particular ecosystems, artists willing to share their creative responses or interventions in the field, and all other sorts and sundries: from memoir to manifesto, from whitepaper to speculation, from PFPs to institutional critique.

Disciplinary scope

Contributors inclined to scholarship may situate blockchain vis-à-vis information and communication technologies, cryptography, economics, political science, computer science, science fiction, philosophy, theology, psychoanalysis, critical legal theory, new media, art history, and more.

Contributors are invited to contact the editor at any time prior to the deadline to pitch a proposal, though this is not necessary.
